3daysofdesign, Copenhagen: A Quick Recap

Scandinavian design has captured the interest of many patrons. Yet, truly acing that aesthetic can be tricky. Each year, Copenhagen welcomes design savants and novices from all over the world to give them a peek at the latest the style has to offer. Iteration after iteration, the collective curates a more compelling journey through the city. The 11th edition of 3daysofdesign took place from June 12-14, 2024, featuring over 350 events across 11 districts. Under the theme ‘Dare to Dream,’ the festival showcased brand collaborations, group exhibitions, new showrooms, and more. There were international powerhouses and rising stars, here is what caught our attention……

Arper

From Chair to BioChar

At 3daysofdesign, Arper displayed their Catifa Carta chair. A re-release of their classic Catifa 53 chair, Catifa Carta is made of PaperShell that captures carbon dioxide through its lifetime. At the end of Catifa Carta’s life, the chair can be turned into biochar that sequesters carbon dioxide.

Fritz Hansen

Experience Wellbeing

Fritz Hansen presented “Islands of Wellbeing,” an event interjected with panel talks at Væksthuset in the heart of Operaparken. Visitors were offered a chance to experience outdoor lounging, discover innovative hospitality and new products, and enjoy the city’s picturesque architecture.

ateljé Lyktan

Snøhetta redefines Supertube

ateljé Lyktan brought back its iconic Supertube pendant with a redesign by the well-known design studio Snøhetta. Interestingly, the original Supertube was inspired by a network of plumbing conduits and was mainly used to shed light on blackboards. Since then, the luminaire has come a long way; today, it is made of hemp.

Normann Copenhagen

World, Meet Normann

Normann Copenhagen celebrated its 25th anniversary with ELEMENTS OF NORMANN, an exhibition that explored the brand’s core identity. The three-story showcase highlighted the brand’s fondness for colour, materials used in collections, and future vision, offering visitors an immersive experience into the essence of Normann Copenhagen.

Cosentino

EARTHIC LAB goes TRANSCENDENT

Cosentino was featured in the TRANSCENDENCE exhibition, curated by architect MAA Frederikke Aagaard. Displaying the award-winning EARTHIC LAB installation from Fuorisalone 2024, Cosentino presented the outcomes of its Silestone® research project focused on sustainable sourcing, production, and design, in collaboration with the renowned Italian design studio FormaFantasma. The exhibit showcased the adaptability of Cosentino’s carbon-neutral, durable surfaces, Dekton® and Silestone®.

Flos

The Signatures and The Newbies

Flos introduced new products across the decorative, architectural, and outdoor divisions. Collections recently previewed at Milan Design Week, were also featured: Special Edition IC 10 Anniversary by Michael Anastassiades, Bellhop Glass by Barber Osgerby, and SuperWire by Formafantasma. Additionally, Flos hosted a special event titled Flos Hosting Copenhagen, which included an inspirational conversation between renowned designer Michael Anastassiades and Pin-Up creator Felix Burrichter.

Ege Carpets

At Two Places

3daysofdesign also saw an extended collaboration between Tom Dixon and Ege Carpets. The celebrated designer’s tasteful affinity for geometry and the brand’s allegiance to quality was reflected in custom carpet designed especially for an exhibition in Vognmagergade. Ege Carpets was also at the DDcated design hub staging their new concept, Rugs, against the backdrop of the Lapidarium of Kings.

Moroso

Italian Luxury at Copenhagen’s centre

Moroso bought a bit of Italian luxury to 3daysofdesign. Secondome’s new project, An Italian Affair, was realised at an 18th-century building in the centre of Copenhagen (formerly the residence of an Italian ambassador). Claudia Pignatale, the gallery’s creative director, curated high-end Made in Italy products, including Moroso’s furnishings, transforming this historic venue into a stunning showcase.

HAY

Colour is Key

Hay ventured outdoors in collaboration with Japanese sportswear brand Asics. The limited edition collection reimagines the 1994 Skyhand OG in Hay’s distinctive colours—pink, green, and blue. Additionally, Hay introduced home decor items by Muller Van Severen and Studio 0405, including the Drome Table Lamp designed by Christian Juhl⁠, the Brim Pendant designed by Rui Pereira and Ryosuke Fukusada⁠, and the Cupola Lamp designed by John Tree⁠ , amongst other playful silhouettes.

Kvadrat

Rethink Sustainability

During this year’s 3daysofdesign event, Kvadrat unveiled ReThink. After five successful editions of Kvadrat Design Projects, the sixth edition centred on sustainability. The expressive exhibition at the Copenhagen showroom featured the work of 12 designers, artists, and architects from around the world, including Iceland, Venezuela, Beijing, and Brooklyn. Attendees discovered their interpretations of responsible design using Kvadrat’s recycled, regenerative, and circular materials.

Porcelanosa

Off-Road Kitchen in the Middle of the City

Porcelanosa Group showcased its latest at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen’s Odd Fellow Palæet. The exhibit featured organic textures, soft neutral tones, and shiny metallic accents, creating a harmonious blend of ceramics and natural materials. Textured walls and mosaics enhanced the overall ambiance.

Rockfon

“It All Begins with Stone”

Rockfon opened its doors to a multisensory exhibition at its flagship showroom in Copenhagen, showcasing the power of volcanic stone in creating spaces where acoustics and user comfort are prioritised. Visitors experienced sound clarity, tactile textures, aesthetic harmony, and natural scents. The exhibition “It All Begins with Stone” featured live conversations with industry experts during 3daysofdesign.

Viccarbe showcases their latest chair, Noah, by Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba, along with other novelties at the ODD FELLOW PALACE, in the exhibition arranged by the Spanish Embassy of Denmark. Other Spanish brands, Ondaretta and RS Barcelona were also in the space sponsored by ICEX (Interiors from Spain).

Vitra provided a sneak peek of their upcoming soft seating product, Anagram, by Panter&Tourron. The lounge sofa is adaptable and aimed at contemporary needs.
